Why Hiring Professional Painters Is Worth It
Why Hiring Professional Painters Is Worth It
Painting is one of the most cost-effective ways to improve your home, but many homeowners underestimate the work involved.
Hiring professional painters can save you time, money, frustration, and ensure the job lasts for years.
Here’s why.
1. Professional Painters Deliver Higher Quality Results
Painting looks simple — but professional painters spend years mastering:
✔ Clean edges
✔ Smooth finishes
✔ Crisp lines
✔ Proper coverage
✔ Durable coatings
Clean Cuts and Clean Lines
Most DIY projects show brush marks, uneven spots, or drips. When cut in lines are crisp and clean, your eye is not drawn to imperfections. You may not even notice why a space looks like it was done by a Pro, or not. If you take a minute and look at where walls meet ceilings or walls meeting baseboard or when different colors of paint touch eachother, you will either see a well done job, or something sloppy.
2. Professionals Know How to Handle Texas Weather
Painting in San Antonio is different than painting in cooler regions.
Pros understand:
• best time of day to paint
• ideal temperature ranges
• how to prevent bubbling in heat
• which paints withstand UV
This prevents early failure.
3. They Perform Proper Prep Work
Most of a painter’s time is spent on:
• pressure washing
• scraping
• sanding
• priming
• caulking
These steps determine how long your paint lasts. Prep is so much more important than people realize. When done with competence and care, the end result will look a lot better.
4. Faster Completion Times
A project that takes a homeowner 2–3 weeks can take professionals 2–3 days.
This minimizes disruption to your life. If you were in the brush and roller day in and day out, you would be a lot faster and more accurate and could walk through a home with a brush full of paint and not leave a drip anywhere. This is what we do, and over time, we have become better and better.
5. Safety & Insurance
Professionals use:
• ladders
• scaffolding
• safety equipment
They are trained to work safely at heights. We also carry a large liability insurance policy to protect you for any accidents that might take place.
6. Access to Better Materials
Professionals know which paints perform best in San Antonio climate—and they can get contractor-grade products. That is actually a funny thing in the painting business. “contractor grade” is actually a terrible product that builders use on homes that you cant even wash without it coming off on your cleaning cloth. We simply do not use the lower end products in the range of qualities available. For example, Sherwin Williams has 7 or 8 grades of paint. The new homes being built in San Antonio today will have the lowest grade possible on every surface. We only use Emerald, Duration, or Super Paint for our customers. Using great products make the job easier for us and leaves you with a finish that will outlast the cheap stuff by years. Another consideration that is not talked about enough is the SHEEN of the paint. This will be a topic for another day, but, let me say that we can consult with you on which sheens would be best for different areas in the home.
7. Higher Home Value
Professional painting increases curb appeal and improves resale value. Painting your home is the highest “Cost to Value” choice a home seller can do. Everything looks better, newer, and more cared for and taken care of when freshly painted. You can usually get your whole home painted inside for very little. We offer special deals for Real Estate Agents and their clients when putting homes on the market.
DIY painting adds value, but if not done real well… it may not give you all the benifits you hoped for.
8. Clean, Stress-Free Experience
You don’t have to:
• move heavy furniture
• buy supplies
• spend weekends painting
• worry about mistakes
Professionals take care of everything.
Why Hiring Professional Painters Is Worth It
Painting is one of the most cost-effective ways to improve your home, but many homeowners underestimate the work involved. Though it is a cost-effective improvement, a sloppy job will not help at all. Once your roller touches the ceiling.. you are toast! Now you have to see if you can match the ceiling paint exactly, or risk a noticeable coverup. “Leave No Trace” painting is the way to go. This is when all you see is absolutely a beautiful space and no signs that it was done yesterday. Signs like drips on the floor, wall paint on the baseboard or door casing. Bad cut in lines between two paint colors or sheens is also a dead giveaway that something happened here. You want the results, without any leftover signs that it was ever done. Our eyes are naturally drawn the things that are not quite right or out of place. When you get a Professional paint job, there nothing to notice except a job well done.

This prevents early failure. When you ignore temperature and humidity levels while painting, the end product suffers a lot. Proper curing times are essential for lasting finishes.
3. They Perform Proper Prep Work
Most of a painter’s time is spent on:
• pressure washing
• scraping
• sanding
• priming
• caulking
These steps determine how long your paint lasts. They also contribute to a great looking paint job. Let me give you one tip when patching a nail hole. Get a little spackle, caulk, or drywall joint compound on the end of your finger. Then push it into the small hole. Now rub it in, so that the texture around the hole is not filled in. The next step is to take a clean, damp rag and now rub that across the small area. You might need to do this process twice, if the product shrinks. Usually once is enough, and now, when you paint… the nail hole is completely invisible. Homeowners make the mistake of doing this with a putty knife, filling in the texture and leaving an unfinished drywall mud to be covered with a Satin, or semi-gloss paint. After painting this sort of repair, a clear “flashing” spot appears after the paint dries. A few mistakes have been made.. First, fresh drywall mud needs to be sealed before painting. Second, the putty knife covered and filled the texture, so there is a flat spot. A small, very small hole has now become a 2”x2” patch up job. Please take our advise and use a fingertip followed by damp cloth to remove everything except the filler in the small hole. The amount left is so small that priming is not an issue, and it can be painted when dry with no future flashing noticeable.

These last longer and look better. Believe it or not, they are also easier for us to apply! Many times with “cheap paint” we end up needing to apply an extra coat in order to achieve full coverage and stop bleed through of the existing paint color. That extra coat costs a lot more in labor than just buying a better quality paint in the first place. So, really, expensive paint costs less then cheap paint! When I say expensive, we are only talking about $5-$20 a gallon extra. It really makes no sense to use inferior products, as there is no savings. If you take into account how long paints last, a great product also gives you years more of use and beauty.
7. Higher Home Value
Professional painting increases curb appeal and improves resale value. This is 100% the case. We can take a house that really needs paint, and spend $3-$5K in there, and home buyers will choose that home over what it was only a week before. It is just paint, but it helps everything look newer and fresh. Usually, we also recommend changing out fixtures and upgrade switchplates, switches and plugs while we are at it. Then… we can bring a home right up to date, for very little out of pocket. A home that does not look old or need a lot of work, fetches a higher price, as many buyers don’t have the cash left over after the purchase to do a complete overhall. We are asked often if it is better to give a “paint credit” to the buyer, rather than paint the home. The answer is a resounding NO! People have a few problems with that. One is that they have no vision of what can be. The other is that they expect to have an expense much higher than what you will pay us to professionally paint the home. The other problem is they wonder “what if I pick the wrong color and the buyer wanted something different?” This seems legitamate, but, if you stay with the top 10 colors of the past couple years, when you choose your color, they will be able to live with the color and not feel the need to repaint immediately. We like to stay in the soft neutral beige colors that can go with Warm or Cool decors. We have some favorites that are the same colors being used by all the top Home Builders in the country. Stick with those and your new buyer will love you for it!
DIY painting adds less value than a professional paintjob will. All those imperfections draw the eye, and shoot you in the foot.
